Do Vision Boards Really Work?

Posted by:

A vision board (or book) is “a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal.” You cut out pictures, phrases or words that mean something to you and your ambitions and place them on your board. These images represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. We’re big fans of vision boards. CrossFit Central’s Carey Kepler uses them in her goal setting meetings to help our clients visualize the life they desire and the goals they want to achieve.

The question everyone wants to know is  – do they work?

Karen and Tony came to the Garage Gym Blueprint in September 2010, you might know them best as @CrossFitGenius. Karen recently sent us an email filling us in on how the GGBP training set them up to seize an unforeseen opportunity AND live out their dream to open a CrossFit gym near the beach. All of which were goals realized in images, that Karen and Tony had placed on their vision board over one year ago. Below is their story:

From Karen & Tony:

Last fall we brought what we learned back to CrossFit Genius in Montgomery Alabama and turned a struggling business into a viable gym, all the while taking control of our time commitments to work on the business rather than in the business. Everything was going great and momentum was starting to build.

Then in March we had the opportunity to sign a lease to open a gym in Seacrest Beach FL on the Gulf Coast, right across from the beach. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and, because of the knowledge and confidence we gained at the GGBP, one we were able to seize. This whole move came about very quickly. I found the ad for the space in February, we signed a lease in March and opened our doors in May.  I can say unequivocally we would not have been in a position to make the move without the GGBP training.

Because of the processes we had built into CrossFit Genius we had a business that was not only salable but could continue to thrive without us. We picked the right trainer to buy CFG and continue to mentor him in the business principles of GGBP. We’ve been open for a couple weeks in Florida and are loving it. It has been even more rewarding building a gym on the GGBP foundation.

Karen shared a picture of her vision board with us (below). On her board was a picture of the beach representing her and Tony’s dream to open a CrossFit gym near the ocean. An idea they began dreaming about in July 2010, and tacked to their board.

CrossFit Genius
is still going strong in Alabama, we look forward to their continued success! Check out what Karen and Tony are up to at their new box in Florida:
