Carey Kepler, CoFounder of CrossFit Central, spoke on several topics at the 2009 Black Box Summit in Austin, TX. In this video she discusses Central’s Elements program (3 one-on-one training sessions designed to teach fundamental movements) and how to introduce a new client into the CrossFit program. Since the BBS Central has created an On Ramp program and no longer does Elements.

“We decided to move to the On-Ramp model for a couple of reasons”

  • 1. It decreases back end work and increases productivity. We were having to match individual’s schedules to coach’s schedules, taking each appointment one by one, and sometimes the client would have to work with different coaches due to scheduling conflicts.
  • 2. The On Ramp program helped to streamline our clientele and introduce them to the class setting, while still teaching them the movements, giving them knowledge of what is CrossFit, and ultimately keeping the quality and standard high.
  • 3. This program also allowed our coaches to free up and maximize their time.  Now, they teach 8 people in an on ramp program 3 hours a week vs teaching 8 people in Elements 8 hours a week.

Is it important to have an introductory program for CrossFit? How do you introduce a new client into your CrossFit program?
